Andrew “AJ” Schugel was born and raised in Southern Colorado. He attended Mountain Vista High School and was recruited by Central Arizona College in Coolidge, Arizona. As an outfielder, Schugel was honored with 2010 NJCAA All-Region 1 and to the 2010 ACCAC All-Conference Team. Andrew Schugel transitioned into his professional career by being drafted 33rd overall by the San Diego Padres in the 2007 First-Year Player Draft, but he did not sign.
